Seven years ago, I was overweight, had debilitating IBS and was diagnosed with depression. I was tired all the time and had no motivation. The doctor prescribed anti-depressants, but I didn’t want to take them, so I started researching natural alternatives. I knew nutrition could have an impact on health. My mother used nutritional therapy after being diagnosed with terminal breast cancer and was still with us nine years later. So I cut out ‘bad foods’ and hoped clean eating would be the answer. It wasn’t. I felt angry that I had to deny myself the things I wanted, junk food and alcohol. My weight yo-yoed massively. I would do a five day juice cleanse but smoke throughout, and then  I would eat compulsively until I was sick.

There was no balance; it was all or nothing. Feeling at an all time low I decided to book a yoga retreat at a tiny ashram in India. I had never been to a yoga class but I’m naturally flexible so I thought I would be fine! It wasn’t until I arrived that I realised what it would entail. I spent a month meditating, chanting, cleaning the ashram and practising asanas, mostly in silence.


At first I really struggled, but by the third week I was enjoying connecting with my body. Furthermore I discovered that chanting cleared my head. Most importantly, I realised the root of my problem. I had been focusing on the negatives, what was wrong with my body and all the things that I didn’t have. When I thought about changing my health, I only thought about what I would have to sacrifice. By shifting my mindset, and focusing on all the incredible things I would be able to embrace, delicious food, movement and a positive outlook. I shifted my state of mind from scarcity to abundance.

With a renewed sense of wellbeing, I came home and enrolled for a nutritional therapy degree. As a result of my change in outlook  I wanted to share my passion for healthy food and natural medicine. Since then, i’ve supported more than 500 clients in improving their health with the power of nutritional medicine, and a positive mindset.
